My review of: The Harvesting

The Harvesting by Melanie Karsak

*** Book description as appears on Goodreads ***

It’s all fun and games until someone ends up undead.

Though Layla reluctantly returns home to rural Hamletville after a desperate call from her psychic grandmother, she could never have anticipated the horror of what Grandma Petrovich has foreseen. The residents of Hamletville will need Layla’s help if they are to survive the zombie apocalypse that’s upon them. But that is not the only problem. With mankind silenced, it soon becomes apparent that we were never alone. As the beings living on the fringe seek to reclaim power, Layla must find a way to protect the ones she loves or all humanity may be lost.

My review

Finished reading on May 4 2013 and gave it 4 stars.

A look at what happens when a psychic/seer knows when the world is coming to an end. Layla’s grandmother can see the future and makes preparations for the end and the protection of Layla and the townspeople of Hamletville. Layla must use her abilities to keep those she loves alive. This book adds an interesting connection between zombies and vampires. There were a few things that were left unanswered and the ending was a little confusing but I’m guessing that will be explained more in the sequel, which I’m definitely looking forward to reading.
Layla was a strong character who did not let issues of the past get in her way of caring for and keep people alive. The townsfolk had some interesting ways of dispatching the undead. However without Grandma Petrovich, Layla and the town might not have even had a chance. I can’t wait to read the next book to find out the true part the different “spirits” are playing in the scenario.

The only issue I had with the copy of the book I got was that it could use another round of editing.
